(re: my mother's/Pāsifika women's historical experience with medical violence)

Happy that our testimonies were heard AND we still got work to do.

Part of my testimony:

"10 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, I was not seeking a midwife, under your definition. I was seeking the opportunity to practice my cultural practice. We are in Moananuiākea. We are in Pāsifika. After my mother watched me give birth healthily, happily at home, she rejoiced. Why? Because medical violence on Pāsifika women is generational and well documented. My mother had her first child killed by doctors 13 minutes after birth, her next child was deformed by forceps. Next birth gave her an episiotomy, where they cut open her cli***** and she could never feel pleasure again. She knows - we know - who we need around us to be safe during birth. Using our tax dollars to criminalize those who support us in that, is an overreach and is unnecessarily inefficient. We do not need to justify or prove the validity or safety of our practices. You have to prove yours to us. And while we're waiting on that, you can kill this bill, or defer it until we can make the amendments that are necessary to ensure the safety of our families."

✅ Get educated about business, sales and marketing from people who do it in ways that don't just feel good, but embody healthy, consensual ways of relating with people.

✅ Be a good community member and ASK for support. Talk to people. Don't assume everyone has it all together and that no one wants to be bothered by your burdens! Be vulnerable and relational and CURIOUS.

American supremacy does a number on many of us where we think that how THEY do things, is the ONLY way to do things. Not true. So we need to dig deeper - past their illusion of supremacy, to see what actually exists outside of that. There's a whole world of possibility, of community care, of love and sustainability and caring for our planet and our people. We've been doing that longer than corporate greed. So yes, I have so much hope for us, because we're out here! So many businesses that I interact with are doing community driven, meaningful work - we've been doing this, and we'll ALWAYS do this.
